The Dick
Beardsley ˝ Marathon is a looped course run through downtown Detroit
Lakes and around beautiful Detroit Lake. It begins at the Pavilion
and finishes by the City Park. The ˝ Marathon is ideal for first
time participants as the terrain is relatively flat with some gently
rolling hills. The course is USATF certified as is the 5K. Times are
recorded for 3 hours, until 11:30 a.m.
STARTING
LINE: Races start at 8:30 a.m. just outside the Pavilion. There
are facilities at the start for dressing in the Pavilion or city
beach restrooms. Runners who have run a 1:15 or faster for 1/2
marathon should line up on the starting line. All other runners
should line up behind according to their projected finishing times.
Walkers and slower runners must start in the back rows.
TIMING:
ChampionChip timing will be used for the Beardsley ˝ Marathon and
5K. Be sure to wear and return your chip.
SAFETY
FIRST: The Beardsley ˝ Marathon has traditionally been cool. If
it is warm or humid on race day, please take special precautions to
avoid over-extending your limitations. We are not responsible for
race-related injuries, and runners will be responsible for any
medical expense they may incur.
AID
STATIONS: All water stops are considered Aid stations, and are
equipped with a cell phone for emergency use. EMS volunteers will
also be driving the course checking on all participants.
RACECOURSE COURTESY: Please be considerate of your surroundings
during the Beardsley ˝ Marathon and 5K run. At the starting line
and along the course be respectful of residents’ properties.
Emergency vehicles have the right-of-way at all times during the
race. Runners who have finished the race need to avoid interference
with runners approaching the finish line.
PACKET
PICK UP AND REGISTRATION: Race packets may be picked up on
Friday evening from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or early Saturday morning
beginning at 7 a.m. at the Pavilion. You may also register at those
same dates and times.
PARKING:
If you’re driving, we ask that you use the High School parking lots
on Roosevelt Avenue (1/4 mile from start/finish area) since there
are plenty of parking spaces and access to open streets during race
day.
